Hi everyone, I only have until June before I graduate. While focusing on post-production for my Senior Thesis, I am also looking at starting to do some freelance work in the area. But where do I look and who would be willing to hire me, especially since I don't have the money to buy my own equipment. Any suggestions?
the reality: work for free, build your resume, intern etc until you're too valuable to ignore. The only way to have reliable continued success is to work for it, and not expect a paid job to be handed to you cause you paid for a bit of paper.
Doesn't the Savannah College of Art and Design offer any guidance in where to look for work while you are a student and after graduation? That seems like something a college should do as part of their curriculum. Freelancers need their own equipment. It's impossible to compete in the post production field without post production equipment. Of course you could always intern at a post house - not freelance work but you would gain experience in a real world environment. You could freelance as a camera operator and rent a camera adding that cost to your day rate. Same thing as a key grip. Work out a deal with a local rental house and freelance as a key grip with equipment adding the rental costs to your rate. Most producers looking to hire freelancers are looking for people with equipment so you have a more difficult challenge than people who own the needed equipment.
