There allot of new actors and actresses emerging and as a director, I'm really excited about the newcomers. I generally use mostly the same people in my productions, because I know what they have and can do, what to expect from them, but we now have newer persons to the theater who come with great natural abilities, and I think this is great for the Indie filmmaker
been in the business for 10 years, I think I just started maturing as a filmmaker within the last 3 years

About the age thing. For actors and filmmakers, I think that today, it doesn't matter what age you are, not more than how savvy you are in choosing projects. Choose projects based on your projections of where the series of projects chosen lead you. As far as the time, it just takes time. Having had the pleasure of speaking with just a handful of famous actors and filmmakers, I've found that they all have one thing in common, By the time they all made it they had been treading the business for years, some beyond 10 years, others just under. Hopefully we have learned allot, now all we have to do is be and stay prepared, and never quit. I think you will be fine. You're probably one year away from an Oscar.
No problem. Its just the truth at least from my perspective.
Hope your just as stoked about unknown writers.
I am have you written much? What do you have?
I've written a lot. Of course I've been writing for 30 years. I have two self published books Two published by a small press in Florida and one live action short produced. I have some small/medium budget features and shorts on my loglines and screenplays page (see my profile) but here is my web page http://tabithabaumander.yolasite.com/

As an acting newcomer, I think it all comes down to the love of the craft. If someone starts acting for the wrong reasons, they're more likely to give up sooner. If you truly love what you do, it doesn't matter how many roadblocks are in your way.
I watched War of the Worlds (the Tom Cruise version) again recently and I was amazed at the skill of a particular young actress. She was about 10 years old, but had the chops of a seasoned professional. I had a special interest in watching the film because I had the opportunity to perform with this young lady on set last year (well, a lumber yard, I was an extra, she a lead) and was impressed not only with her acting, but her pleasant manner. That young ladies name is Dakota Fanning. I wonder how many directors have passed on a wonderful actor and instead cast the mediocre again because they knew the mediocre. I've seen it just recently. A mediocre actor(ress) got a lead role and the talented actor(ress) cast as an extra because the director knew one of them. Let me tell you, the whole production could have been better.
