Since Section 181 of the US Tax code is still applicable, I suspect the Majors and mini-Majors will simply do what the banks do, and that is write off the bad debt, and get a federal pass on taxes via the 181 vehicle. Decline in box office numbers is hardly a measure which to justify the studios setting themselves up for a fall. Most studio own franchises built into their libraries, and can use those libraries for asset swaps to offset negative balances. I can hardly see the banking industry allowing any of the zone studios to fall, unless there was a major merger about to take place.
