Love of the Arts

My name is Makesha Williamson.I am working on getting my independent film Culture Shock Carnival filmed. What is Culture Shock (Carnival)? The film is about a southern girl who loves to dance but have been faced with fear of being great at what she loves most and has no knowledge of any other culture dance besides her Southern American Culture, but she moves from the south to the city and is introduced to the Caribbean Culture & Dance (ie. Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Jamaica, etc.) and Carnival by a young lady who is from Trinidad & Tobago and a few other friends.. I love sharing parts of my life that many others have in common, and are afraid to express how these moments turned their flaws into life lessons. Although every one of us has different lives and life experiences there is always a similarity. My goal is to express understanding within your past and for the hurtful things to perish and allow our lives to live. I want everyone to understand life with an open mind, embrace other people’s culture, life styles, and beliefs without judgment. To understand a person is to know or understand their history. I have an Independent Production BIRTH (Believe & Inspire, Reach Triumph Humbly) Productions. My 3 potential locations for filming are Florence, South Carolina, Charlotte, North Carolina. I was born in Florence, South Carolina and lived in Brooklyn, New York for over 30 years. I currently reside in Charlotte, North Carolina. My goal for this film is to educate, and share my story of how I learned and fell in love with Carnival. Everyone I am associated with are from the west indies and I live an American/Caribbean Life. As my children father are from Trinidad and Jamaica I maintain their cultural living. My main reason for writing this script is there are many Americans in the United States that has no clue to the Culture and Carnival. When I talk to them about Soca & Calypso their exact words are "Oh that Jamaican music?" I have to explain to them that there are many islands and cultures associated with Caribbean music. My best friend is from Trinidad & Tobago. We have been friends for 25 years. I have dedicated this independent film to her sister that is no longer with us but was a major and positive impact on educating me on Caribbean life. If you are interested with the story. Please I would love any feedback, support, or if there is anything you think would be great to implement, to help tell a wonderful story on what could possibly be a life changing fun experience.
