So I will be visiting New Orleans for the first time next week (April 18th to the 24th) and I've been researching places and of course networking and I thought, why not post something here? Los Angeles based actor here, always looking to network and connect with new people! It's all about networking, right? So, locals...let me know! Also, I would LOVE any recommendations of places to see, where to eat, what to see while I'm in NOLA! Thanks in advance! I'm about 5 hrs. north of NOLA. Family there for generations. Got a few ideas, and some friends there.
Just got back from New Orleans. Definitely get your grits at Mothers. Drink a Hand Grenade at Tropical Isle on Bourbon, and have your coffee and pastries at Cafe Du Monde. I did get to see some film production handled by NOLA Film Logistics and Danni Productions. Have fun!
All depends on what you're interested in. We have an amazing zoo, aquarium, WWII museum. You can take a river cruise on a huge paddle-wheel boat or a swamp tour looking for alligators. Bring walking shoes and tour 'the quarter' and all the quaint shops. Food Food Food and more Food to be found everywhere, so bring expandable pants - LOL. If you walk around the quarter, be sure to stay in well populated areas, don't venture down any dark unpopulated alleys. Ride the street car and you'll see a lot of the area too. You just missed the French Quarter Festival - free music all over the place. Weather is going to be mild - mid 70's during the day. Enjoy!!
In addition to the aforementioned may I also recommend High Hat Cafe 4500 Freret and Cowbell 8801 Oak St. be warned, if you hate great music and fine cooking and even better people, don't go. :)
Seafood platter at Deannie's in the quarter - gumbo too. Cafe au lait from Cafe du Monde or Morning Call. Muffaletto from Central Grocery on Decatur, hamburger from Port of Call... Like I said, the only problem you will have with food is where to put it all!!

WOW! You all rock! I love this site! Thanks so much to each and every one of you for all the suggestions! I can't wait and really appreciate the advice/info!!
One last bit of advice - if you happen to be sitting at a bar and someone tries to bet you that he can "tell you where you got your shoes at" - don't take the bet, he'll win! LOL
Yep! -- Guy walked up to me on Bourbon and asked me that EXACT same question! - I lost. But got a helluva shoeshine though :-)
