Platform for showing films free of charge

Does anyone know the best way to get your finished product out so that people can download it? I have hunted but can't see anything. I may be using the wrong tags though. Any help/advice appreciated.

Rachael Saltzman

For completely free on both sides, youtube. For downloads, there are tons, including Amazon.

Sorry, I should have said: It's a feature, so YouTube is off limits. Thanks anyway, Rachel. Someone told me about Amazon Studio: has anyone heard if it's any good or not?

Rachael Saltzman

Youtube will let you post long videos if you don't have a history of copyright violation. Amazon studios - you're going to have to be really aggressive with promotions.

I've used Vimeo for this with a lot of success, with a pro account you can tailor your player/embed settings, privacy, etc... You can also link it to a tip jar.

Nick Taylor

are you talking about a short or a feature?

Steven Topich

I thought Amazon Studios was only for things in development. You could always distribute the film through a site of your own, and stream it from the site if you choose. Also I regularly see stuff on Youtube that lasts a couple hours so your film should be able to get on there. It may take a while to upload it though.

For file download, the best today should be mega.co.nz, for live play vimeo.com (10x better than youtube). You can do both if you put the download link on the video description on vimeo.com. Vimeo is free but with premium account you can play hd video on your website and remove their logo.

Cheers, guys, your help is much appreciated. For those who asked, it's a feature and I want to make it available free via a download. Forgive my wet-behind-the-earedness, I shot and edited it myself, but when it comes to Net tech, I am crap.
