How do you guys approach the audition?

The caption says it all. How do you guys go about auditions? I mean, how do you prepare yourself? I'm always trying to improve and learn some new techniques :)

All I really do is memorize the material they give me (if they give you any), read up on any info you have of the film/producer/character/etc.. They see TONS of people so I enter the audition with a sweet smile and a "Hello" to brighten up the room. Just be happy to be there and they will pay attention.

Take Craig Wallace's audition technique class if you're in LA. First read the sides 1 time. That's all set your intent, then read again 1 time, set your relationships, then read again and make your choices. Never memorize, because in the event you get adjusted, which is what you want. The dialogue will not be as available to you as it was before. You will have a very good idea of the lines by the time you are done putting in your work. but it is not necessary to be off book. Always have your sides in your hands and be prepared to change on a dime. Most of all be yourself. We are hiring you, not a "character" we are hiring a person to play a character. You have to make us go "wow" but more importantly you have to be someone that we want to hang out with for 5 weeks in Butte Montana

I always am to be off the page and I try and prep as much as possible about project and crew. I interviewed a v successful UK working actor and he had some great advice on this, It is both a podcast and also full transcript if you want to look. He is v inspiring about being an actor and what it takes. http://loveyourcreativity.com/2013/05/08/how-to-be-a-successful-working-...

It is a subjective experience. It depends on the individual and where they are at. You may be confident even though you may be new to the game. Or do you second guess yourself? Understand what type of person you are. Know yourself. what are your strengths and weaknesses. Then you can decide on the process as well as the choices you make, which as a result become clearer. There is no one way or a 'best system'. What may work for one person may not for someone else. Although some proclaim they know the best way to do so. Don't misunderstand me, it's great for people to share their experiences. But in the end you must go through that journey yourself. There's no shortcuts. If there is, then that's the choice you've made and it will reflect in your work. Sometimes shortcuts are good, depending on how experienced you get and the situation. There is no one way. Become aware of where you at. Your centre. Then proceed to build from there. You can buy or borrow many resources on the process of the audition process. But be careful not to follow them too prescriptively. Remember to adjust whatever you learn to where you are at. Or may attend some local acting classes. That may help depending on the teacher and group. Imagination, discipline, focus, self belief, being realistic, grounded and honest with yourself are qualities you need to tap into in order to undertaken the process of going through an audition. Of course skill and technique must be inherent, regardless of whether you are trained actor or not. As the great theatre director, Peter Brook said, "Hold on tight, let go light". Give it everything you have and then prepared move on. Be open, be ready for the next step. The next moment. Be in the moment....... In short it's not just about learning lines and having a character. Prepare and then go for it. I hope this helps and best of luck.

Kinda weird, but I find that, if I'm not really interested in getting the job I'm auditoning for, I ususally get it.
