Caught in a continuous rewrite loop

I'm sure I'm not alone in my quest for perfection. It seems knowing when to stop rewriting is a challenge I face, anyone else? When looking back at a screenplay written more than even 6 months ago, as I read I find things that don't fit the character or story that I have stored in my head. As we all change in our lives, through events and revelations, our stories change. I need to sometimes stop myself from looking back, and start a new fresh idea to break this habit :-)

Alternate. Finish one new script before you rewrite an old one. This also helps by kind of "cross training" - what you learn from one script you can apply to the other.

Thanks! That is great advice, I like the idea of cross training. Cross genre training Work that core!

I think what Bill said is really the only advice you need on this matter and can be applied to all aspects of your life. If something feels stale or a chore, do something else and come back to it. Often you'll be reinvigorated with fresh ideas and a new perspective upon your return. All the best, Mark --------- http://www.moviedraft.com

Try a meet up group in your area. That way you rewrite as write, if that don't make any sense then sorry.
