Some anonymous person referred me here and in the last few days I've found Stage 32 very interesting indeed. I come from a major studio AD and screenwriting background, though now that I'm over forty and obsolete in LA, am making movies in Portland, Oregon. Very interested in partnering with producers and agents interested in an experienced director who knows how to work with talent. Two feature projects in development. Trailer for my most current feature: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSQIxe-dAi8
Hi Eric. Welcome! Just curious as to why you consider yourself obsolete in LA? Is it the age? Your particular skill set? A combination of both? Asking because I am also over 40.
Paul, ageism has been a factor in Hollywood for decades, particularly for writers. Also, there are many who feel older filmmakers have lost touch with younger audiences. I don't argue. As I've matured I've lost interest in making films like The Hangover or testosterone fueled tentpole epics. I'd rather make films that have heart and soul and something to say. Cheers.
Understood. But isn't there still plenty of room for smart, thought-provoking works like "House of Cards"? One would hope.
Paul, all I meant to say was that the center of the mainstream film "industry" is Hollywood, but since I've moved on from seeking employment to making my own films, I can live anywhere and continue to be a productive filmmaker. The money isn't as good, but the hours and quality of life is much better. (House of Cards. Yes. Netflix has changed our world.)

You don't look old Eric, I'm over 60 no wonder I don't get much work in Hollywood.

Thanks to whoever referred you to Stage32. May I ask you to stop worrying about your age. Just keep doing what you love. Your feature 'Purple Mind' is very persuasive. "A time bomb" is an accurate description and leaves us to question the military as it relates to their responsibility to help defuse honorably discharged soldiers.
Welcome back to the real world. I'm a screen writer in Toronto and somewhat over 40. Cant picture ever going to H wood. I'd probably terrify them. =+)

Eric, nice job with the trailer. Looks good. In this day, is 40 really over the hill? or is it just two 20s cojoined? LOL
Hi Eric, I liked the beginning and ending of the trailer but the middle parts of "guy going crazy for no apparent reason" dragged on a bit too long for me, mostly because I didn't know what the point was. I think if you moved the discussion with the old-timer -- the part that actually tells us what this movie is about -- up a lot earlier, and then intersperse that with shots of him going crazy, you'd have a much more powerful trailer. That's my two cents, meant to be helpful, not critical. I wish you the best of luck with this project.

I liked the trailer. It's a topical subject, since everyone seems to be losing it.

Very nice, Eric! Love this trailer. Great content. I love characters that are so conflicted, who you want to stop but you understand. Nice.
