Recomposed Trailers

Hello Stage32 Family! I have just created my own composition for the trailer for the movie "The Paperman". Please let me know what you think: http://youtu.be/y6fTpGgNmwU I appreciate all of your time and thank you!

Wilhelmina Wells

Nice Job.

Kirk Williams

Thanks for your comments and taking the time to watch it!

Jason Donnelly

nice. what do you use for Orchestral sounds?

Kirk Williams

Thanks Jason. I am using a mixture of libraries: Symphobia 2 and True Strike and Ivory Piano.

Jason Donnelly

Oh cool! Symphobia sounds nice. I recently discovered these guys Strezov Sampling.

Eric Stacey

I think it's a very tasty composition that compliments the imagery nicely. Well done.

Dale Sumner

Hi Kirk, well written piece and good production values. Nice job.

Bruce Robb

I agree, but at the risk of being a downer here, is it ethical to take someone else's work and do that? I'm a bit conflicted - but it's good.

Dale Sumner

Bruce, that's a good point.

Bruce Robb

Actually, took a moment to think about it, and I guess it's not a lot different if I cut a proposed video together and use some well known music. So count me corrected.

Dale Sumner

Still a good point though, but that's not suggesting that Kirk has done something wrong here - far from it. As a composer you need to demonstrate your skills, and sometimes a good way to do it is like what Kirk has done, especially if all you have as potential show reel material is student films (apologies to all students: that's not a slur on your work, but your work whilst a student is mostly a demonstration of your growing talent and doesn't always represent the best you'll ever achieve!) Still, it is a good piece of composing...

Thank you to everyone for the feedback. With the trailers that I re-scored my goal was just to have an exercise with writing to picture... finding the tempo and creating a fluid work that matches the ebb and flow of the edit and scenes was my intention for this. I am in no way taking credit for the wonderful production of "The Paperman" and I consider it more a "fan-work" than anything else. You guys know how hard it is to find good inspiration and this and the other trailers visually inspired me. Thanks again for everyone that took time to share their opinions. I truly appreciate it.

Joe Benit

when the rhythm starts; your horns/orch and rhy section are not quite together. Otherwise well done.

Thanks for the feedback
