I'm from New York & of course I have an accent. I'm very nasalized and add w's to every word haha- Does anyone know of any good Voice classes in NYC? Much appreciated. I've taken a speech class in school so I know the basics and what needs to be changed its just a matter of practice and discipline. Help?

I say you should embrace your accent. New York accents are fun. I have a Northern accent too, but not very strong. On the other hand I practice at other accents- if you practice a English "British" accent and you feel like you're having a hard time regulating you real accent, than practicing this specific accent should help. Other accents to have fun with, Canadian accent and southern ones. The only time you really need to change your accent is when you're performing right? Embrace the you, because you is what you're selling. Does that make sense?

Jane Fujita teaches dialect classes at Primary Stages. There are other places in the city where you could try an accent correction class but I know Jane and she's awesome.
Ugh. I can't delete my previous post from my phone. Jane's at ESPA/Primary Stages. Check out their website for more details.
thanks so much guys! definitely looking into ESPA @Jessica

Yeah, the course description is online. It's not an accent correction class but she teaches the International Phonetic Alphabet which really lets you feel how certain vowels should sound. Plus, you walk away with a whole new skill set. And! The ESPA community is really lovely, I'm taking their Alexander 2 class this Fall. :)
