Want to experiment with multi voice audio book production.
Looking for advice on multi-track Sound recording Software with good voice altering capabilities. Would also like to talk to anyone into sound recording local to me in the UK.
Thanks Eoin, I have audacity already, not sure I know how to use it to its the best advantage, for instance does it have voice altering capability ? This is kinda important for the project I have in mine, a story for children so I need a young boy, two girls, Grandmother and whole host of tiny (therefore high pitched) characters of differing accents including Scottish, Irish, English (various) and French female. I would prefer to team up with someone who has the knowledge but so far no takers so I thought I might have a play and see what happens. Thanks for your input.
Audacity has all of those tools - it has a voice changer plug in and you can change the pitch, equalization and add some compression to change a adult male voice to that of a boy etc. Try the online forum or check out how to videos on YouTube
I did a great class at the Actors Centre in London recently run by the guy who used to voice Tony The Tiger (Frosties) and it was all about pitching your voice into 9 diff areas to produce kids voices and cartoon voices. I know you want to EQ/Reverb, alter pitch etc but it is amazing what you can do on your own with a bit of practice!!
Marysia, I am first and foremost a writer and storyteller. Besides I have a very distinctive West Country accent which doesn't go well with my story. I came to Stage 32 looking for new ideas on how to bring my stories to life with the possible help of other members for mutual benefit. After all, all the skills are here so I don't know why it is necessary for each individual with a new idea to reinvent the wheel ?
Cory, Check me out ! Me British.!!. acx can't or won't handle anyone outside the US. No idea why, they claim it's a tax thing but that doesn't seem to stop Amazon selling my books in the US. I looked at it when they first started and think it's a great idea for standard audio book formats like my Inner Space Murder mystery novels. However, what I'm looking to do is bring my children's stories to life with multiple voices, I guess a bit like a radio play. In total I hope ultimately to create an iBook mixture of print, audio and illustrations.
Further to Cory's suggestion about acx.com Which is a good one, by the way, if you happen to live in the USA or have a W9 or TIN or are exempt from US taxes and can prove it . However for the rest of us it isn't available, which is a shame because it sounds like a Damn fine idea and service. So why hasn't someone approached Amazon.co.uk with the same idea to cover this side of the pond...? Customers waiting !!
Try Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/- it's free, multi-track and comes with lots of plugins and it's pretty powerful

Randall, If I ever create a Cossack Dust Bunny character in my stories you will top of my list.
