Anything Goes : Original Ideas in Hollywood by Ewen Munro

Original Ideas in Hollywood

I recently read that of all the films that came out of Hollywood last year 96% of those films were either remakes, sequels, or based on some book, real life story, etc. So the question I'm trying to raise is "Are there no original ideas in Hollywood?". My belief is that it's all money based, e.g. every superhero movie. Hollywood knows there's a market for that, and there's a market for best-selling novels as well. And it leads me to believe that Hollywood isn't willing to take chances on original ideas because of the potential loss. But that means it'll damage screenwriters that are trying to get into the business, especially if they're trying to come up with original ideas. Let me know that you think.

Lets just say they have fallen to an all time rareness. And yes are right about it damaging opportunities for screenwriters. And yes it appears to be all about money in film now and not the art of originality and creativity film. It seems that the Chinese take more risk than us now. and yes if I see another super hero movie!! I love some of this stuff but it is like they are milking the same cow over and over again. Thanks for sharing this man.

must say i am soo sick of remakes and movies based off of books. gives us screenwriters a bad name. i dont want to become a screenwriter to rewrite other peoples stuff. i wanna write my own scripts. but yea i dont think its lack of creativity. its lack of guts to take a risk on an original new project. like Hollywood needs to worry about losing money =/

Obviously it is about money. What else would it be about? I've never seen a Harry Potter, nor Lord of the Rings, nor a Hobbit film. The only way we can stop them is to stop watching the crap they churn out.
