That's an old thing to write

I've read a lot of different places about how to write a screenplay. Never anything help really. So I write as I should, but I get confused by this. "They don't write like this anymore." Can someone explains what the hell that means? Such a vague statement that can mean so muh, yet no explanation follows.

The format of screenwriting has evolved. You may be writing by the book, from a very old book. To be honest, the differences aren't that dramatic. Probably the best way to get a feel for what the norm is today would be to read a few current screenplays from well received movies. The hard part will be finding a spec script as opposed to a shooting script (spec scripts are hard to find).

The link below is for "American Beauty." It's a brilliant script, though it is a shooting script. Take out the camera directions and you'll get the idea.
