Courier new Vs. Courier Final Draft

Hi there, I have a conundrum on my hands. As I understand it, and please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, The font "Courier New" size 12 is the industry standart. One page - one minute... However in Final Draft 8 I've noticed that the same script in "Courier Final Draft" size 12 is a lot shorter than "Courier New" size 12. Now here's the question: Which font do I trust? Thanks and all the best Jesper Emborg

Hi Cab, but which Courier? New or final Draft?

Wayne Taylor

CELTX is free!!!

Paul Rothbart

CELTX is free, but Final Draft is better. Courier Final Draft is an acceptable industry standard. It's essentially the same as Courier New.

Vincent M. Dominguez

Courier New brother.. I always use it..

Paul Rothbart

Cab makes a great point about the one page = one minute generalization. I shot a short last year from a 15 page script that runs about 11 minutes minus credits. It's mostly dialogue scenes so the pages run faster than the norm.

Janet Scott

Thank you for posting that Vincent, I was not aware of that... I use Final Draft

I would say type at a size that is easy for the eyes to see. Agents and Producers look at hundreds of documentation per day, after while the eyes can tire. Nobody wants to look at a tiny font. If industry standards calls for a 12" that's what I would do regardless of how many pages it takes. Just make sure you document is relevant and no a bunch of bantering. Good Luck on your endeavor.

Lyse, that's my point. It's such a big difference that I kinda need to know which one to trust. The jury is still out it seems...

Hi Lina, I don't write scripts, I read scripts, so it's rather important for me to know the correct length.

Frank A Rybicki

Courier Final Draft is the standard for film scripts. Courier New gives a false page count.

Ok don't get your ego in a tizzy... Hey in college if your writing a APA, MLA they all had specifics for a reason that's all I'm saying. As someone you is obviously used to reading scripts I'm sure you know which font is comfortable on your eyes. Like someone comment one is larger than the other yet they are still in the "Courier" family. Also you'll only no if a page is a minute by timing it as you read... just responding to your post. You must be really fun to work with.. :D Good Luck on your screenwriting

Thank you Frank!

Personally, I've been using Courier Final Draft. I find it's far easier on the eyes. Maybe it's just me. haha
