Hey everyone, I'm in pre-production/development on a project and I've never had to put a project up on IMDB before. Is there an official process and can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks
In my experience, if it's in pre-production/development, IMDb won't post it unless you have press to show it's a legit project that's going somewhere. For instance, if you've attached name talent or secured funding from a studio, etc.
You may as well 'bite the bullet' and get the pro account right from the outset..there are just too many reasons! You'll see! Do it only if this is a serious project!
It is my most serious project to date. I've been debating whether to get a pro account. I recently got my first IMDB credit as an extra on someone else's project and I would like to make some changes to the details. That plus this project (which you can check out on my Stage32 profile) has given me the idea that I need it. The benefits may not justify the cost is my main concern.
You don't need a pro account to get a film on IMDB that has been viewed at a film festival or other public circuit. If you want it on IMDB before this has happened, like in preproduction, you can get it on there with an imdb pro account. Otherwise the human reviewers will determine if you meet their eligibility. If you have a star, then probably yes.
basically what i found is you can get it up with a free account but there are hoops to jump through but the pro version makes it a whole lot easier and there is many well worth benefits to pro
How to get a pre-production film (it's actually a web series which usually falls under TV) onto IMDB was actually my original intention. I'm sure there are benefits to having a pro account, but if it's not necessary to getting something up on IMDB then I can take or leave a pro account for the moment.
I've had a pro account for years and it provides tons of additional information however, anyone can get the 15 day free trial. On POSTING the project -- it is very very very challenging for unknowns to get a project in development listed. You must have a website, an outside news article or known talent / directors to achieve this. I have one project thats seeking funding ( and may have found it ) which I couldn't get listed for love or money. I have another two projects that are in the same stage of waiting for money but they have known talent attached and so they are both listed. Make sure your project name is unique and fill out the blanks in the form carefully. That's pretty much it.
Don't be daunted by the process Andrew. It's fairly straightforward as long as you do two things. 1) Allow sufficient time to go through the process on Withoutabox. Expect it to take your time and attention for about half an afternoon. 2) Be sure to have complete information on hand about the project - including logline, synopsis, and full cast information.

Okay, but I wouldn't even know how to go about asking them.

Thank you Parker.

You need an imdb pro account to get it up before it's finished and presented.
I figured that might be the case, thanks Cory.
Okay, I already have an account but I haven't been clear as to the process. I'll use the link above.

Respectfully disagree Robin.....we NEVER would have reached what we did with a free account....NEVER!

If you submit to festivals on Withoutabox, you will automatically receive IMDb credit for your project. Hope this helps!
