Hi – Since reconnecting with my passion for writing and editing, I have been using Corel VideoStudio Pro 5 to familiarise myself with digital editing and brush up on my editing skills. I am now inspired to edit my future short films/documentaries and am considering the Avid Media Composer 7 editing software. I recall that Avid technology was all the rage in Australia in the late 1990’s when the digital revolution arrived and my former TV colleagues loved it. (I am familiar with Final Cut Pro but am not a Mac user; Adobe Premiere seems a bit cumbersome (or at least, it did when I produced my first short film.) If you are an Avid user, would you recommend it? Or are there other alternative broadcast quality editing programs on the market (for Windows)? I have been avidly researching editing software programs (pardon the pun) and am very interested to hear from professional users. Thanks for your help.
Thanks for sharing, Linda!

Hi Richard - Thanks for launching such a brilliant network!
Appreciate the kind words, Linda! Thank you!
Avid MC7, FC ProX, and Vegas Pro are great editing apps. If you are into broadcasting editing and documentaries, Grassvalley Edius 6.5 or 7 is great. Adobe products are great for production integration, but not my favorite. I am using Editshare's Lightworks ("www.lwks.com) for all of my corporate video and film projects. I own MC7 just for some of my clients compatibility. Here is the truth of the matter. All editing apps do the same thing, they provide tools to cut your footage. The tools are what you make of it. I have use just about every editing app out there except Autodesk Smoke and Avid DS. They all do the same thing equally. You have to ask yourself which one gives you a better workflow with editing and how fast can you cut on it. That is why I choose Editshare's Lightworks because it is the fastest cutter to me on the market. Then comes Edius Pro, Vegas Pro, then Final Cut and I am a Macaholic.
Hi Omar - many thanks for taking the time to write such a helpful overview of your experience with various editing apps. I will have a look at the Editshare's Lightworks app. Best wishes, Linda
Sure, not a problem. If you have any questions about lightworks, please let me know.
Thanks Omar. Most appreciated.
hi, I have edited many feature films on avid and my experience was excellent. Avid is editor friendly so that editor can concentrate on editing content rather than focussing on technical matters. We should not get deviated by list of menus but focus on content editing. best luck!

Hi Shrirang - thanks for your input. I have heard several good reports about Avid and love the idea of concentrating on editing content rather than technical matters. I am very comfortable with technology these days but don't want to be distracted by it when on a creative roll.
