I mean, is it? I only get messages and see posts about "please fund my movie", "please like my movie", "please vote for me",... This is getting a little annoying. And if it's not that it's the classic: believe in your dreams, blablabla... So here is my question who actually gained something from this site in terms of networking? And I mean, find a real work force. P

Hey Pedro...A few things 1 - We have a Zero Spam policy here on Stage 32. If you are receiving solicitations looking for money, feel free to report it. 2 - Thousands of our members have found work, raised funds, landed representation, or connected on a project in our two year history. Many have been kind enough to post about their experiences in the Stage 32 Success Stories section of the Lounge. I can tell you that, personally, I have landed two option agreements and an acting role through the site. 3 - You get in what you put out. I worked my ass off networking to get those options and land that role. I put in the time and it made a difference. 4 - You have full control over your account. You do not have to accept a network request or communicate with anyone you don't want to... Wishing you the best of luck in your endeavors. RB

You really have to search for partnerships in your area or in your field.

I just put up some demo material, and started chiming in on some interesting conversations. Within a few weeks, maybe a month, I linked up with one really great guy from New York (right near Broadway) with whom I am writing a musical, and another fantastic gentleman who is a working actor and new director who is making some quality shorts. Both liked what they heard in my demos (I'm a composer), and both also have some other great contacts who have already heard my stuff. Seems to be working for me. If you come, having already dedicated yourself to the craft, others will notice, I think. At this point, I'm only laying low because I don't have time to take on too much more ... and there are SO many wonderful projects going on here, with some very talented people. It's hard for me NOT to want to get involved in them.

Hey Pedro, one of my favorite things about this site is reading the successes that lead to work and collaborations. I especially am in awe of the global collaborations. There's an entire section dedicated to that in the lounge. It's up to you to control how Stage 32 works for you. See you on the site!

Paul and Catherine...Thank you so very much for sharing. I would be thrilled if you would make a post in the Success Stories section of the Lounge speaking to the connections you made. Always great for others in the community to learn how a peer used Stage 32 with success. Thank you in advance!

And thank you, Andrea, for posting as well! I agree with you, some of the global collaborations take my breath away. Amazing.
waw, just got my first chat and it went like this: "Hi, how are you? - "Are you interested in my services,...." ....
said no. And this was the reply: "sent you a message" Which was packed with self-pomotion and links, blablabla... people got no shame.

Again, Pedro...That's a violation of our spam policies. We give all our members the opportunity to report spam. You're not helping us out at all by posting it here and not telling us who it is. We're a small staff. We have 175,000 members. We ask the community to help us police the site and either report the spammers or lead them to our spam guidelines.
Richard, how do I report spam?

Each notification has a link to report spam. If it's a chat spam, feel free to DM me or Derrick Ontiveros privately.

Thank you for sharing that, Olivia. I'm always impressed by how you work the site. Active, positive, giving. As you experience more victories, I hope you'll make a post about them in the Success Stories section of the Lounge! I'd appreciate it!

I signed up for Stage32 to gain tips and advice in my own endeavours from those that have been in this industry FAR longer than I have. And so far, it's been rewarding from the tons of questions I've asked and comments I've received. I didn't come into this expecting to find work or land that BIG gig. But that very well could just be because I'm up in Seattle and not LA.

I have been here for a long while and have made connections and friends for life and I know that when I move closer to them aka out of Ireland to the U.S., canada, europe or where ever they may be that we have each others backs and plan on making some magic happen I have consulted on four projects so far and have had people consult on two of my projects so I would say yes it is for networking I have been building my network from day one because I come from a non traditional film background... I don't have money I didn't go to a fancy film school I don't have any family in the industry but I took a swing at it I complement peoples work if I think its worth investing my time in it and we start to talk from there. networking is not the easiest thing in the world to do especially for someone like me who was a non people person in school standing in the corner on my own with no friends just be persistent and hope for the best nothing in this world will just fall onto your lap you gotta work for everything. You have to remember that the majority of the people on this site are the same they are trying to get into the inner circle of the industry or even just starting off like me... the film world use to be a closed market for people with millions of $ and power but times are finally changing people like me who have little to nothing to offer financially are working our way up the ranks and breaking into the closed community using the resources we have to make what we can today and not worrying about the future. I know the chances of me making it "big" are very slim but I don't want to do anything else as long as I am making films and telling the stories that I want to tell I am happy if money and fame come good and well if not who gives a shit I'm happy and that's all that matters to me because at the end of the day when its all said and done money fame and status mean nothing we all end up the same. So again to answer your question yes you can network on this site with people its just finding the right people with the same passion, ideals and goals that you have
@ Hardy L.A. is no longer the power house it use to be people are making more films else ware due to tax rebates you are quite lucky to be in Seattle there is a great film community there it's on my list of places I want to make a movie more films were shot in Louisiana in the last five years then in L.A. yes L.A still has the big budget film but it's loosing business due to people moving away from there http://variety.com/2013/biz/news/l-a-mayor-declares-state-of-emergency-a...

I think rather than getting actual work, this site may be more useful to share your views and get some knowledge from fellow members

even after 22 years of my work in TV and Film industry, when I visit stage32, I feel like I know nothing, there is so much to learn more...
We never stop learning, my friend. Each day offers another opportunity to further ourselves.

There is nothing wrong with giving folk encouragement.... we are all here for different reasons, some are here asking for help, others to get feedback, and those who just need conformation that they are on the right track. I appreciate those myself, who do take the time out to respond others.

This forum is like a community open all hours... The friendliest forum on the net.... The socializing is what can lead you onto the net working side.
Great posts, Janet. Like any good community, we should support one another, help one another, and contribute in a positive fashion.

Unconditional too Richard.... Thank you guys for starting up this site.... the opportunities for those to find the help they need are tremendous. No where else could you find a group of folk, so many, by the way.... who are extremely talented and gifted...and willing to care to share, without looking for anything in return...Big applaud to you both you guys... You would get a standing ovation real time... if it were possible to do on here... J
A standing O? I'd even take a John Hughes "slow clap"! Seriously though, I am thankful for your support. You're a shining example of what makes this community tick - active, selfless, helpful, positive...All. The. Time. All of it is appreciated more than you know.

That dynamic can be frustrating but sadly most social media sites, regardless of the industry focus, tends to have a lot of people who fail to balance out their posting habits with their actually talking to the people they post to and truely networking :/

Im only a week here, but so far, Ive read inspiring and amazing posts/comments, and have seen how it can uplift and often assist that person. So, I do think that u never too old to learn, and u choose what u want to read, or who to talk with. Its a place for professionals, learners and those that love to connect with like minded ppl in their industry of choice. I hope that this site keeps me inspired on my journey of knowledge, and that someday I can achieve my dreams, if its by myself, or with assistance from my connections made here. Life is about taking chances, and I must admit, I leap at all opportunities, because its out there. Chin up... this site is great :)
