Vimeo or Youtube

I find that those who park their reel on Vimeo take a long time to load opposed to Youtube's. Anyone else? I think it is important to watch one's reel before accepting a Network, so this is how I have noticed. I go to watch a reel via Vimeo and Render, Buffer, I skip it after a couple of min. I move on to another request and their reel is parked on Youtube and Bam' right up and on...Anyone else? To those who DO watch someone else reel?

Richard "RB" Botto

Or you could park em right here :)

Brandon Keever

Youtube & Vimeo. Send the Vimeo link when your reel is requested (automatically plays at the highest definition) Youtube to help market yourself.

RB did not want to suck up the bandwidth or wait for another upload. The comment or question was DO YOU notice the difference when previewing Vim over YT. Not me or my vids being hosted on here. Mine loads fast I use YT and 720 at no more then 5mbps on export of the file. Small files encoded for the website, in my case YT. Which Brandon eludes to, Vim trying to play the HD always, where it is not needed all the time IMO. I am just curious, as with anyone...I hate to wait for buffer. i guess I will keep on doing what I am doing and missing out on slow loading reels and move on... Maybe it is just my IP

Jeffrey Apostol

@Simon. Me too. If you set YT to high quality, I really don't notice any difference, but many of my friends (cinematographers, DP's, graphic artists etc.) swear by Vimeo. Maybe it's a reputation/industry thing? Anyways, I see a great amount of Vimeo links on YT content and vice-a-versa.

Richard "RB" Botto

I know, Simon...Just having some fun ;)

Gary Gibbons

Upload to both.

John J Lindsley

Definitely upload to both, as Gary Gibbons has stated. Vimeo is far more professional and higher ranking advocates are more likely to see you there, whilst YT is a mass media vehicle which lags behind in quality.

Tabitha Baumander

John is right but I say go with both. send provisional connections to vimeo and let the You tube listing simply be for exposure.

@ John and Tabitha, I see your point. However I was asking what few have answered, and I have elaborated on. Plus, does anyone really think "higher ranking advocates" Surf for content? C'mon, when I think about that, it reminds me of an old 80's movie, cannot remember the one. There is a scene where a band tries to give a higher ranking advocate a demo "cassette" that is how old the movie was. Anyways the exec, tosses the cassette. Another note, anyone who knows editing, knows an export can be in any format out. So what is posted, is not necessarily what the final out for delivery would be. So we are in agreement Vimeo is a slow load. Due to it's Color bit, I am assuming. The bigger the bit the bigger the file the slower the load.

Tabitha Baumander

here's where you have to remember the Catch 22 of this business. No one pays attention to you if you don't have some visibility and you don't get any visibility if no one pays attention to you. Being seen by a lot of people gets you visibility and if its really a lot of people then it can lead to something. Yeah its a shot in the dark but do you want to try something and have it not work or go join the zillions in Hollywierd who are playing the game the old fashioned way and going nowhere. Both ways can work. The first way lets you stay in real surroundings where the people aren't hidebound to a system that is swiftly becoming old hat.

How does that relevant to the load speed and actually being seen. Respectfully, humans have the attention spans of Gnats. On that note, waiting for a video to load does not help the cause. I just went to watch another Vim vid looked like a good 7 minute short. But waited 5 minutes for it to load...So I won't see it. Too bad for me, and the guy who would want me to see it, as I am sure that is why it is out there.

Yeah I guess it is only me and another guy....
