Hello everyone, I have a question on which I could really use some guidance. I am trying to get my acting career going and I am having some pretty good success considering what I have done in regards to how little time I have be actively pursuing this, so I am incredibly grateful to all who have helped me thus far. That being said i am not in a position yet to submit myself to an agent or manager, I don't have a demo reel yet and have been told that I wont be considered with out one. Could also be that I don't know enough about how getting an agent or manager works and which ones are reputable. There is a movie for which I would really love to be considered, however the casting directors will only look at you if you are submitted by your agent or manager. So I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of submitting directly to a casting director or if there have ever been exceptions made to such policies? Has a casting director ever said "i don't normally do it this way but.." ? I'm just wondering if there is a way around this dilemma or if I'm SOL until I can get picked up by an agent or manager? I really don't want to miss an opportunity where I think i could excel and really contribute to the success of the film if possible. Thanks for reading and for your help. Vince

More likely, the CD will want to see your work (demo reel). Showing folks in The Biz that others have hired you helps build the trust factor. On http://www.IndustryDeal.com we have had some great folks shoot/edit/write, essentially produce scenes that look like the projects that you want to work on. This free webinar is great for explaining the importance of what I just wrote (targeting) http://www.performertrack.com/webinars-home-pw-tot-od.html Is this CD speaking somewhere? Where can you go outside of their office to ask them a panel question, read for them, etc. Then follow-up with a link to your work? And continue a plan to stay in touch and let them know about your work. Also, an agent/manager is great, but not the end all-be-all. What is 100% important is that you are getting out there, meeting these people (CD's, agents, producers, UPM, etc.) and building relationships with them and that when the time comes your acting, well that you can 100% deliver on that.
