After the horror of Sandy Hook, only 2 miles down the road from us, it is very difficult to make comment on any film involving youngsters and/or their teachers. However, the late Terry Ryan, a chief writer for "Car 54 Where Are You?" and "Sanford and Son," created an original screenplay comedy involving a children's gang that performed good deeds by capturing some bad guys. It's still gathering dust on a shelf in Hollywood, for the past ten years. Terry was a good friend of mine who earned his stripes writing for Fred Allen. When I asked our very young grandson if there was any hope for resurrecting "The Bubblegum Gang," he replied with one word: "No."
They grow up so fast these days.
