Introduce Yourself : Golden Oldie! Vera Holman, Vancouver BC by Vera Ann Holman

Hello everyone! I started doing Background/Extra Work decades ago, when the Film Biz came to Vancouver! When I got tired of playing cards--"Screw Your Buddy" with my friends between scenes, I started writing...whatever came to mind. Next came education at Capilano University with the Certificate in Film Studies, more courses in Writing for Film and TV, and acting classes starting just after my first UBCP/ACTRA credits. Then we needed 7 credits to get from Apprentice to Full Union. By the time I got to 6 credits, they changed the requirement to 3 and I was "IN!" Took "Flash Forward" at least 5 times for networking and extra knowledge, and one of our teams entered a contest called "Crazy 8's" -- to make an award winning 8 minute film in 8 days, with a total budget of $800. I was privileged to get on that "team" as Craft Service, and WE WON THE TORONTO SHORT FILM FESTIVAL! I have 6 scripts and 4 more 1st drafts, but haven't been pitching these for a couple of years. For 5 years I volunteered at the Great American Pitchfest and some Expos all in LA and a few others, including Vancouver's first, bringing the Producers/Agents/Execs/Company reps here for writers to pitch their creative work. I know a little bit about a lot of things related to Film...and love every minute. And I have met and got to know not dozens, but hundreds of people in the Film Business in North America. Networking WORKS! ;-)
