Screenwriting : Titles.... Titles... Titles... by Molly Kerr

Titles.... Titles... Titles...

HELP!!! We have till the 13th to come up with a title for our arthouse film so we can start our Kickstarter campaign in time to get the film set off to Cannes! I A splash of absurdism and a pinch of surrealism: the sexy, awkward and desperate lifetime of an unsuccessful, narcissistic singer captured in the dreamlike narrative of a science fiction universe. We need title suggestions that you're happy for us to use. We will credit you with the title in the film, of course. If you want, one of the characters can even say your name and thank you on film. It doesn't have to fit the description above. Alternatively, if you would vote for one of the titles we've already come up with? We don't care if it's relevant but what has popular appeal. We want people to want to watch this. THE PLANET OR THE CHOCOLATE BAR/ ATTACK OF BORIS THE DOG/ THE EMOTIONAL STRING/ BETTER WORSE OR NOTHING Please let me know! My director/screenwriter partner is pulling his hair out trying to choose a title. For his scalp's sake, please help! Molly

Thomas Bailey

Attack Boris. The Dog. Cookie planets & Soymilk Rings. Cookie Commets & Chocolate Bars. The Planet! Boris. The Soymilky way. G: The Emotional String. Pluto is filled with nougat. Nougat! The planets core. My dog boris; he eats space. Nothing? Worse? ... Better? Sirob Sirob! Boris: He ran away to space.

Marshon Thomas

I vote for this title "THE PLANET OR THE CHOCOLATE BAR"

Franz Von Toskana

White Dwarf. He thinks he's a star (narcissistic) but he's actually a failure - collapsed...

Franz Von Toskana

PS A White Dwarf is also known as a degenerate star once collapsed... So our "hero" is a degenerate failed star, thus I call him White Dwarf.

Teo Jansen

I like the "Better worse or nothing" phrase

Tom Loveman

I was thinking of musical references: /Fermata of Undetermined Length /The Minor Seventh Circle of Hell /You can't just glissando through life /Fibonnacci's Purgatory /Space in the Key of G /Second Speech

James Madara

I kind of like the play of Hershey's Kiss in some of the suggestions below: "Life is like a Chocolate Bar", "Is the Moon Made of Chocolate", "Chocolate Moon", "What's in a Chocolate (or Hershey's) Kiss?", "Chocolate Kisses"

Cheryll Thompson Ganzel

I like BETTER WORSE OR NOTHING, or, EMPTY NOTES.

Cheryll Thompson Ganzel

James, I love "Chocolate Moon".

Alisa Vernon

Dali/Picasso on Pumpernickel.

Georgia Hilton

Starry Night.

Antonio Villaronga

"Songs in the key of I" (that's a capital "i") or "Selfies in Space" as in, this character is so self-absorbed and self-important he/she would be the kind of person to be taking pictures of him/herself rather than admiring the beauty around if he/she were to be in outer space

Leslie T. Suhayda

Molly, I know how hard it is to get that title, I went through that period with my project, it took 4 years, but I got it. If I could suggest a title to you with my limited knowledge of your project. I suggest."Searching For a Song" as in life we are all searching for who we are, Love, that special someone and how we can fulfill our goals. It is all a mystery and some of us find that song.

Jon Plotkin

Perhaps "I Sing My Body Electric". I don't think Walt Whitman (his "I Sing the Body Electric") would mind. If the main character's arc is one of learning, then maybe "I Sang My Body Electric". Good luck............

Tammy Gross

Ralph Shorter

"The Mirror Is My Friend"...

Meir Sabbah

David Kotzebue

SPACE BARD

Jim Fisher

""Life in the Key of E=MC2"

Franz Von Toskana

But I've solved the E=Mc2 equation. E=£ because time is money...

Antonia Jones-Hackley

Lights Out/The Dimmed/Falling Star/Burn Out

Jim Fisher

Franz, in the dim recesses of my memory I seem to recall the Film Production formula was a triangle with Time/Money/Quality as the points.

James Holzrichter

Quantum Quirk

Janet Biery

I don't know what to do! I'm overwhelmed with your responses! Good on you, guys! I'm so impressed! I have so much to work with now! just goes to show, 20... 25 heads are better than two! I love these titles so much! If we use yours, we'll get in touch!

Leslie T. Suhayda

Molly, do to the response, break it down to a top ten and compare it to your project. See which one brings out the curiosity of the public. Perhaps you can survey the public with a focus group to see which title is more interesting.

So when do we find out what you guys came up with?

Molly Kerr

Chris decided to go with Attack of Boris the Dog. He was very very very motivated and encouraged by you guys. And has suggested he'd steal a number of those titles for other works (I'll let you know if he does)! He changed the plot of the short film to include a terrorist character known as Boris the Dog, so it's developed even since I talked with you last. I'm really excited. I'll ask if I can include a thank you to you all in the credits, because you really helped restore our faith in humanity and the project! :) Let me know if I can do anything for any of you!

John MacNeil

Nice choice, thanks for the update. I wish you all the best on your project.

Antonia Jones-Hackley

Much luck to you guys!!!!

Art Sprunger

with the question-mark at end

Leslie T. Suhayda

Sorry, none of the titles draw me to watch. It has to be enticing and draw the potential viewer customer in. These titles do not do the job.

Dita-Marina Obert

My Life in Dali's Shadow.

Simon © Simon

What title did you ever come up with for the "Plastic Spaceman"?

Robert Coffee

"A Day In The Life Of Boris Th Dog"

Leslie T. Suhayda

A recommendation, your log line pitch draws the interest of the public and the title is the one two punch. If you don't have either your film will remain unnoticed and the Day in the Life of Boris the Dog will be sleeping with no one watching. Review your log line and the title carefully does it stir curiosity and does the title grab the customer, survey some people at the mall or at a coffee shop, see what they say, after all they are the ones who go to the movies.

WHERE ALL STRINGS END...I just thought about it...hope this helps!:) PS: I think a " string" is also a term in physics or astrophysics...I think I've heard it mentioned in a Science Fiction movie or series before...

Mark Souza

String theory postulates that the elemental particles which make up all matter, such as protons and electrons are not point-like objects as we were taught, but one dimensional strings. And the various particle types are not different at all, but the same string elements at different quantum states. The strings are too small to be measured with even the smallest gradation of a Stanley Powerlock measuring tape, yet the Stanley Powerlock continues to sell well - at least that's the theory. Hope this helps.

Johnny Cinematic

We need more info. Do you have a synopsis somewhere we can read?

Molly Kerr

Good luck, fingers crossed for you.
