This film exposes how mainstream media contributes to the under-representation of women in positions of power and their influence in America. It challenges media's often disparaging and extremely limiting portrayal of women and girls. For those of us trying to create refreshing, authentic, amazing female characters this film is a must-see! It starts with a personal story from the narrator and then talks about the media's affect on teenage girls -- self-objectifying -- but then, goes heavily into social media, news media, advertising, TV, Hollywood, movies, screenwriting, history, social issues and politics. It features many great minds -- actors, producers, writers, CEOs, politicians, journalists and activists. It's loaded with staggering statistics. I mean, I knew it was horrible out there, but I had no idea just how truly horrible. "Miss Representation" is currently streaming on Netflix. Released in 2011. http://film.missrepresentation.org/

Hey CJ, the web site lists it as available on iTunes, Vimeo on demand, Netflix, Amazon and you can purchase it from Virgil Films. :)
Not on LoveFilm Instant, not available to even rent from LoveFilm. Not available on DVD other than Region 1 it seems. UK fail. Looks like it will have to be Vimeo or iTunes. Almost can't wait to watch this but need to wait for someone to come back from a conference to watch it with her.
It is one of my favorite docs. It's was available on Netflix.
