Anything Goes : Calvin Coolidge by Gretchen Elhassani

Calvin Coolidge

This isn't really a movie quote... But it was the footer on an email I received along with a read request for my newest low budget horror script. "Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race." -- Calvin Coolidge

When people ask 'Why did that book get written or how did that movie get made, when there's something better out there?' The published or produced writer are most often not the most talented. They are just more persistent, more determined. The famed writers of history were likely not the most talented of their generations either. If they didn't make efforts to share their works, we would never had heard of them. How many great works of literature are just notebooks sitting on someone's shelf or sitting in a box locked away to never be seen because their creators were either too afraid to want to share them or gave up after only a few rejections? Stephen King received so many rejection letters, he staked them on a railroad nail, but they only served to motivate him to keep trying. Love him or hate him, King is now one of the most well-known authors of all time. That's where persistence gets you.
