Digital sound editing logistics

Technical Question for the Sound editors among you... I personally have edited sound for film but I'm still learning digital work flow. I've never worked this way before - on previous digital projects, my picture and sound were cut by the same guy. This time I had to hand off the audio; my film was cut (not by me) in FCP 7 and my sound editor requested an OMF file with separate audio tracks to edit. Once he was done mixing, he delivered a two track stereo mix as a .wav file. I listened and made comments, but I couldn't find a way to listen to the mix against the cut picture. I don't have FCP, I can only view the film like an audience member, so if I mute the sound from the unmixed film, then I can't hear the wav either. Bottom line, I couldn't hear sound against picture, I was listening by memory and it turned out the sound guy left out a small line of dialogue which now needs to be redone. It's a ludicrous way to work. Anyone know a way around this?
