I currently have two projects in the funding stage, and one of my investors asked me if I had an Agent or Manager? I never thought of representation before, because I brokered both deals and didn't want to give up % to an Agent or Manager for my hard work. Do I need either at this stage? What are the benefits of having both?

At this point, I would recommend you get an agent. You now have two projects that appear on the verge of bringing in money, that should be enough to hook an agent - money currently on the table and the apparent talent for future earnings. Agents know a lot more about the business that you do and will assure you get paid for all potential revue streams your projects could generate - they won't accidentally leave money on the table. And the biggest reason to have an agent, a good agent can get your work access to people you wouldn't have on your own. They have the connections to bigger producers and studios - you know, the ones who won't take unsolicited submissions. A respected agent can get your script to those people. Good luck.

If you don't want to give up a % to an agent or manager and you are comfortable brokering your own deals then you don't need either one.

Many companies want a manager or agent to deal with so that they have someone who understands deals and/ or contracts. It also ensures that a production company is getting a registered script and keeps any legal issues from popping up later.
