Stories Close to Home

Hello everyone, I'm Tom Doran and new to Stage 32. Although I love stories from nearly every genre and setting, I'm especially passionate about stories inspired from the region where I live, Western New York, and stories that involve strong family conflict. I really enjoy creating characters and setting them in events that either have happened or could happen. In my script, "Double Ligature", I was able to visit each crime scene and write the scene with accuracy that reflects the nuance of the location. Double Ligature also presents a strong family conflict between a father and daughter pulled apart by an elusive killer. My latest script, "Emancipating Tuyet" takes place in both Buffalo and Toronto. Once again, there is a strong family dynamic to the story. It's about two sisters who are deceived and separated as children by their treacherous uncle, where one becomes enslaved in her uncle’s lucrative escort/sex business, while the other sacrifices everything to locate and liberate her. This project allowed me the opportunity to interview the Western New York Deputy Program Director of the Human Trafficking Task Force as well as get involved with People Against Human Trafficking. (P.A.T.H.) Thank you for the opportunity to talk about my latest projects. I also love to collaborate and provide free feedback to other writers. Has anyone had success in attracting producers to local projects?
