The 10 commandments of screenwriting

A movie script may look deceptively simple and easy to write but there’s much more to learn and understand than new writers may at first realise. Screenwriting is a unique form of storytelling unlike any other with its own rules and principles. Over the years I've gathered many sayings such as "less is more" or "show don't tell". These are so familiar they're almost cliches yet they contain some profound insights once you open them up. There's always more to learn with screenwriting - it keeps unfolding - but these sayings are reminders to help to keep us focused and not get lost in storyworld.

Thou shalt not filibuster by means of question and answer Thou shall take all criticism through gritted teeth till such a time you have to visit your dentist . Thou shalt be entertaining outside the circle of your institutionalized friends. And finally my personal favourite, Honor thy family by means of parody and exaggeration.
