Where's the money and the new faces?

Where is the money? Indie film revenues are changing fast. I'm interested in your experiences of new models- oh and as an Oscar shortlisted and twice BAFTA Nominated, Emmy Nominated, BIFA Award winner I am interested in finding new actors, writers, DOPs and others. Hello.

Antonio Ingram

Your right man, it is a Indie film boom going on but best of luck to you and you will definitely find what your looking for on here.

What a great resume David, wow! There is a wealth of talent here on Stage 32 - poke around in the lounge and you'll find everyone you're looking for :)

Yes that is what I meant. There has been a sudden plethora of online distribution etc but it is often not transparent what money, if any, is coming back. Also are there any new theatrical models aoart from the old form of distribution? Be interested to hear of people's experience. Has anyone made money from a web series?

David Pearson

Woman make money? An interesting article by my friend Colin Brown http://info.slated.com/filmonomics/

Good. What sort of return on the investment? And how? Through sponsorship? Advertising?

David Pearson

The money has always been in distribution and sales, but the way that is now happening has changed massively. A lot of traditional distributors have closed. The claims of some of the new online models are difficult to objectively confirm. It is a bit of a minefield.

This is the kind of conversation I've been waiting to be a part of. I'm working on a web series right now, I've been finding it hard to advertise and reach out to an audience without having to spend God knows what through YouTube, etc. I wish there were a better way to get my name out there without having to spend what I can't afford.

David Pearson

It is hard to start from zero if you don't have an identified audience already (which may be a following for a musician, actor or activity) - which is why so many existing books, games, remakes etc get done. With no budget there is only the inventive, sweat and blood approach to gain attention and viewers.

well that's why I'm here, to try and prove myself and my team to fellow artists. i'm hopeful that it'll pay off soon.

David, I'm personally excited about sites like kickstarter. I know several filmmakers who have funded terrific projects at a grassroots level, including Marc Zicree and his Space Command series. There is also a huge growth potential for faith-based films, at least in North Carolina. I hope more spiritual cinema and films with a strong uplifting theme proliferate. I'd love to be considered for any projects you have coming down the pike.

I never did indies til last year when I did two indie shorts for festivals. I must say I was treated extremely well by both production teams. It's a priority for me. They can't afford the budget for roles that a big production can offer, I get that, but they can usually offer lodging, food and pay. In my very limited experience, I've always gotten that. I also love the new and logical trend toward self-taping rather than long drives for a first audition or a long drive at all for smaller roles. Casting baby roles on skype is great and saves everyone time and money.
