Dario Ponissi, Director, actor, coreographer, writer...

I was born in Northern Italy, but my bloodline carries the colors of several different lands, which probably accounts for my many interests in life. I trained and worked as an actor and dancer, in Europe and the United States, always searching for the best in myself and that particular communion with Art which makes life worth living. At the moment I live in Tokyo, where I spent many years, working in the theatre, on tv, in movies. I have had two books published and contributed to another two-score or so. I write costantly, music, poetry, scripts for the theatre and tv, short stories, essays, literary project. For many years, I was a reporter for the magazine L'Opera, at the same time developing my career as Stage Director . I've written three plays (all staged and performed) and directed many titles of the main Lyric Repertory, such as Tosca, Rigoletto, La Traviata, Carmen, Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Pasquale, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, La Cenerentola, Cosi`Fan Tutte, Don Giovanni and many others. My next project is a production of Verdi's Aida, which will be given in July. I directed for the theatre, tv, musical, opera and coreographed quite a few pieces of contemporary dance as well. I also keep an intense activity of masterclasses in Japan and Italy and have been invited twice to Korea to direct operas for the International Opera Festival in Daegu (2011: Don Pasquale; 2012: Don Giovanni). At the moment i'm looking for artistic representation, an agent or a producer with the necessary connections to bring my talents to whom they might be useful. I would also love to share any thoughts and ideas with all of you talented people at Stage 32. Thank you for reading me. I wish all of you all the very best, always. Ciao a tutti! Dario Ponissi
