Hello everyone, My names Jack and I'm currently in pre production for my first feature film. Things are coming together, however I need to find an investor, or some form or funding, to get the project started. I'm based in London, if that is relevant. I did consider for some time the route of crowd funding, however the lack of guarantee involved proved too much of a risk to me. So essentially what I'm asking is this: does anyone have any advice on finding investors/financiers? Any specific ways to pitch my film and attract the right people? What sort of places/websites/people do I need to be talking to? How do I pitch myself (in my opinion just as important as the film idea) to show I'm a credible filmmaker who won't be a waste of money? How many people should I approach? Do I ask for all the money from one person/production company, or approach several for smaller chunks of the budget? Do I need other things in place, such as a distribution agreement, to show them before they invest? As I said I'm new to feature filmmaking so I'm still a novice with this stuff. Any help and advice would be very greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot, Jack

Hi Jack. You're in the perfect place right now. I'm coming to London to shoot my next film simply because of the tax relief offered by the UK. It's not rocket science but can be little bit complicated if you're new to investment finance. The UK has 2 programs the EIS and SEIS which is absolutely brilliant, you can claim up to 65-70% back of any investment (depending on how you structure it). Find a decent accountant, they should know about the program, but find one that's use this on a film. I'm jumping on this for my next 2 movies, they don't have anything like this in the US. Here's a video on it: http://vimeo.com/58660728 Since you're new to filmmaking, if you're serious to find investors I suggest you first pair up with a local producer, line producer who can help u with this. There r a million people giving advice on how to pitch to investors. But what has worked for me is showing them proof of concept. Meaning I shot a very short trailer (30 sec), slick, looks great, showing them I can do it. Only then did they actually give me money. Your funding is not going to all come from one source, unless you're very lucky, or have a rich benefactor. Some can come from crowd funding, family and friends, business investments. Start your limited company, and any bank or good accountant can help you structure things.
