Seeking Representation

Hey Peeps, So I have been here in LA for about 4 months and I have been putting in work. I am looking for any agencies and/or managers that will take on "new talent" so to speak. I realize that since I am not union or even union eligible yet that it may very well limit me to who I can sign with or even want to see. I understand that like every industry paying your dues is necessary cause. However, some actors that I have met on set have told me to look for representation in the Southeast since they are a little more accepting then here in LA. So if anyone can point me in the right direction of where to look, who to submit to, or even a different location would be helpful. Thank you all and have a great weekend!!!

Hey Derrick, I remember being in your position when i first arrived in LA. You can approach finding a manager/agent from a variety of angles. One major way is to attend places like Actor's Key, Actor's Link, and One On One for an opportunity to meet with agents/managers. Another way that I've found to be very effective is to invest in an IMDBPro account. You can research various agencies in your market and see their client list. Explore whether you would fit into their roster, see what shows they have placed people on...et al. And a great way is "word of mouth." Meet people often. Ask them their experience. if you end up forging a relationship with them and they are also represented, ask if they could set up an informational interview with their agency. Some agencies will take on "developmental" clients, so don't get discouraged. :)

Check out LACasting . Once you add your profile, you can post on the bulletin that you are seeking an agent

Hey Gary. I knew that you could post to the bulletin, but I've never heard any success stories with that. Do you know people who have landed an agent this way? I think that's great, if so!

I actually do have a profile on there. I'll have to check it out, but also I haven't heard anyone actually getting an agent or manager either. I know there is one agency that'll send out an invite, but from many of their past clients it has been proven to be a scam.
