Acting : Having Fun, Anyway by Scott Clarke

In February I had this crazy idea that I was going to follow a childhood ambition and become an actor. So off I went to an agent and within a week I was on the set of a TV commercial as an extra living my dream for $27 an hour. I loved every minute of it! Another extra opportunity came along and I attended a couple of unsuccessful auditions for featured roles in commercials. I landed a small unpaid speaking part in an independent feature film, just to get some more experience. I finally got a break recently and am featured in a couple of commercials running during the FIFA world cup. I was lucky enough to secure a featured role in another commercial and did the voice over for that as well. While my agent has secured me the two extra jobs, I have tracked down the other opportunities myself and have also been cast in a role in a theatre restaurant production opening this week. When that closes I will be appearing in a stage adaptation of the poems and humorous short stories of Henry Lawson. I am not looking for a big break. I am looking for lots of small opportunities. While my previous life in the world of sales and marketing paid much more it was no where near as rewarding as what I am doing now. You probably won't see me in movies, my name won't be in lights and no one will ask for my autograph but I'm having fun anyway. To all creatives out there, keep chasing it!
