This site is a huge benefit to organization of filmmaking. The one thing I noticed, as a new member, a ton of people requesting to be a part of my network (while not having tons of info about me, but more to the point, not even in a reasonable geographical location). Now, I understand that film crosses national and international borders, but as one who has not attained this level of action, at what point do I deny a far away request without passing up opportunity? I don't want to muddle my new found exciting intuitive tool with simply a bunch of people who want a larger network. I want a net work to, well, work, for what I am trying to accomplish. I want to grow at the rate I can handle and not wast such an intuitive tool as this site. I also don't wish to burn a future bridge by denying those that do not seem relevant to my immediate future... What say you all to my quandary?

Everyone networks differently. For me, you never know when a connection could lead to something. Someone who knows someone. Someone who can pass your work or resume on to someone else. I can tell you straight out the connection that led to my Los Angeles representation as a screenwriter was someone who lives in another country and had few credits. A person who on paper might have been a pass as a connection for most. It's certainly OK not to accept everyone. But I would keep an open mind.
I did notice that "declines" are saved so you may accept later on this site... wonder how long they are saved?

I like and appreciate your comments here RB, especially "... keep an open mind." I'd like to add "... and stop agonizing, go with the flow and enjoy!"
Couldn't have said it better, York. Thank you.

Gabriel – I fully understand your quandary. I do exactly the same thing because I’m on the production side of filmmaking that relies on local cast/crew; folk I can work with on set - and I’m in the shallow end of the pool when it comes to availability of workable cast/crew. It’s of no value to me to connect with someone of the other side of the globe or even another state nor can I really be of much help to them. So, yes that’s a waste of time for them and me. On the other hand, it depends on your objective. Stage 32 is one of the best (if not the best) networking sites I’ve found that freely provides a web of worldwide connection potential for all. But it’s so much more than that. It’s a place for asking questions – and getting answers. Now, you can’t beat that. This is a place where the rank amateur can rub shoulders with a few of the grizzled old timers and that’s very valuable indeed. I’m a member/participant in certain groups that vet their members – you can’t join until you meet certain criteria. That too has its points but Stage 32 offers so much more to many more folk. We each have our goals and ambitions. It sounds like your interest is building your own viable filmmaking entity – a noble quest. My personal ambition is to pay it forward in the filmmaking industry. Stage 32 works well for us both.

Nice post, Doug. Nicely expressed. Certainly does matter what your initiative is. Here are two (of many) recent Stage 32 Success Stories where connections made all over the world had an impact. http://www.stage32.com/lounge/stage_32_success_stories/I-Was-Starting-to... http://www.stage32.com/lounge/stage_32_success_stories/Softwaring-Hard-f...

This is all really good stuff and I thank you all for the input. I like to see from other people's point of view because I feel it is crucial to know and learn from those who have experienced the things I have not yet. So, again, I thank you all for giving me varied perspectives to consider as I forge my path!
