Screenwriting : Sometimes it IS about right time right place... by Lisa Clemens

Sometimes it IS about right time right place...

Who knew that in the tiny town of Hilton NY, I'd meet an attorney who would have what may turn into a writing gig. Who knows if it really will go anywhere but I'm glad I was wearing my "I'm a screenwriter! Why are you walking away?" shirt today. She stopped me in the middle of a supermarket and asked if I really am a screenwriter. I said yes and told her about my produced work and that I have sold others. She asked if I ever took a book and made it into a screenplay and if it was difficult. I told her I had not, not because it's hard but because I had not been given the opportunity but that in doing one, screenwriters do have to cull a lot out of a book due to length of book vs length of screenplay. She explained the book was from an estate and she's an attorney for the estate. She'd read it , copyrighted it for a family member involved in the estate and they wanted to sell the rights to Hallmark's company but she was told it had to be in screenplay format. Long story short I told her I'd be interested, quoted a "negotiable price" and gave her my e-mail address so the folks that hold the copyright could contact me if they are interested. I have no idea if this will go anywhere, but who knows! I just am blown away that in this tiny town I'd find what could be a good lead for work!
