Introduce Yourself : Introduce yourself.. by Keith Myers Melton

Not strictly an introduction since I have commented in the Lounge before but for anyone who did not read any of my earlier messages this will, of course, be an introduction! So - Hi!! I live in Brazil at the moment but for the last few days I have been in Los Angeles and have been at the Screenwriters conference at the Regency Hyatt. So I wanted first of all to say thank you to the organisers - it has been an enjoyable experience. One key reason for me flying to LA was to take part in the Pitch Slam. There were about 35-40 people sitting around the ballroom to whom we could pitch for five minutes. Over the course of the day, yesterday, I managed to pitch to ten execs/managers/producers. Two accepted physical scripts there and then, two promised to reach out for a pdf version and two more indicated that, although it was not for them, they would pass the information on to colleagues who they were "sure would be interested" - I think they all meant it!? Two more were straight in saying it was not their thing; one said since it was a period piece it would be too expensive (that pitch lasted less than ten seconds and one sentence after the logline!!) - And the final listener was already yawning before I started and I am pretty sure she missed half of what I was saying - it was the very last session of the morning, so she had already heard perhaps 24 or more pitches. I guess I should forgive her! Also I managed to give away about ten copies of my novel (to various other people at the conference) with business cards attached, so who knows what might happen. I will, of course let you all know if anything DOES happen! Good to meet RB who was speaking on one of the panels. Just going out now to be a tourist and visit Santa Monica Pier. Ciao all.
