About mailing query letters to agents and producers

Can somebody tell about a positive result of this activity? Or only paid services give a chance to draw professionals' attention to a script?

Jeffrey Stackhouse

Sergey, I send out e-mail query letters to Production Houses using (what I think are) engaging subject lines every time I have a new "advancement" of some sort. I have gotten several return queries from targeted folk, one of which lead to an option, and, most recently, to a Development Company signing a Shopping Agreement with my co-writer and I to, uh, shop our latest script for 6 months. That would put my physical success rate at about 1 in 100, lol, but it is a result. I would think it would be higher, mailing to Agents, but I don't do that. I have had less success with snail-mail, although I got a lovely response from an A+-list actor one time (the day it arrived!), saying he'd be glad to send it along to his manager where it ... disappeared ... Ah, well. I kind of like the process.

Sergey Velichko

Ok Jeffrey! I will not give up and continue to fight with the statistics)

Danny Manus

1 in 100 is actually probably the right ratio. So, if you're willing to spend that kind of time and money to get 1 script request, go for it. but there are better ways...

Jeffrey Stackhouse

Truth.

Jeffrey Stackhouse

Honestly, next chunk of money I get in, I will probably go to Mr. Manus with my Television project, as I don't understand that process as well. There are other avenues, if ya gots the dosh.

Danny Manus

Look forward to it, sir!
