Star crossed lovers and a retired veteran join to meet the needs of forced migrants fleeing radiation fall out as a once close-knit family struggles to reunite.

SYNOPSIS:

It is said, that after a nuclear event, if one can walk away, one will live. The Jolt Survival series tells the stories of those who walked away. In addition to their daily challenges, when the meltdown of Magdum Heights Nuclear Power Plant occurs, due to injury, radiation, loss of family contacts, and the effects of mass immigration, those in the Jolt Survival Series find themselves severely challenged and are forced to respond creatively.

In a small mountain village 200 miles north of The Plant, when Magdum Heights Plant goes down, Thaw, a veteran and struggling artist, is working to resolve his issues with his father and his citified femme fatale lover, Natalie, regarding his lack of professional status. Dody, a carpenter, Thaw’s clowning but hypercritical father, is working with Martha, to refurbish her home. Martha, a village Newcomer and retired librarian, is informed and welcoming and as a result takes in five forced emigres to live with her.

As for the Matters family, who live thirty or so miles from The Plant, Lou, who works at The Plant and his wife Mary are both affected by dirty bombs. Lou suffers right side brain injury; Mary develops radiation sickness; and Marty and Jason, their teenage sons take to the road.

After the meltdown, state and federal emergency management agencies are overwhelmed and therefore unavailable for needed help so the Lochlee Village Townees set up a POD or point of distribution, and establish ways to feed, house, clothe, and decon the hundreds of Newcomers among whom are Natalie and Lem’s sisters and nieces.

The challenge posed is all pervasive, but to a person, bent on survival, the community pulls together. The Jolt Survival Series is a moving story of individual heroism and the uplifting and heartfelt effort of a community bent on survival.
