When her sister is murdered, a musician allies with great whales and artificial intelligence to give nature a voice in the battle to save the Earth.
SYNOPSIS:
Climate change, wars, and disease ravage the Earth. The worlds' mammals have been depleted. The rich and powerful hire mercenary whalers to hunt the few remaining whales for meat. LOUIE, a humpback whale, swims into view underwater off the coast of Ecuador in his phenomenal echolocation universe. He rises out of curiosity when he hears a violin solo played by SARAH GARCIA (20), a vivacious prodigy, who's visiting her sister, ANNA GARCIA (24) on her research ship. Louie sings a duet with Sarah until they're interrupted by battle sounds in the distance. Anna asks for Sarah's help as she's never fought whaling ships and needs a strategy. Sarah returns to her orchestra in Seattle, but promises to return.
Anna is killed when her ship is sabotaged by Torok, a militia led by CHARLES FOSTER (50s). Devastated, Sarah takes leave from the orchestra. BARBARA (30s), a friend of Anna's, begs Sarah to join their anti-whaling ship. They have no crew or strategy. Sarah refuses to leave her grieving mother. Sarah opens an unnoticed email from Anna showing gray whales aiding orcas escape a whaling ship. Sarah suspects whales have an inter-species intro song that allows all whales and dolphins to communicate. Perhaps the whales can be taught to dive on command and save themselves. Sarah joins Barbara and BOBBY (20), the captain, on their ship.
Sarah flirts with Bobby, and teaches Louie, the whale, the intro song and a variety of dive calls. Peace is short-lived. Sarah thwarts a saboteur from bombing their ship. In a series of horrific battles, Torok's ships assault and kill many whales, including Louie's mate and son. Louie vanishes in a rage. Bobby rams a whaling ship, and everyone is jailed, leaving the whalers free to hunt. This also effectively ends Sarah's interest in Bobby. Sarah leads the women to steal back their ship. Louie returns to the fray, having learned an attack call. He gathers the few thousand remaining whales, and trains them.
The battles resume. Foster orders his men to kill Sarah if given the chance. Bobby returns and agrees to behave. Foster decimates Sarah's rubber boat (Zodiac), then lofts a missile at Bobby on the ship and kills him. Sarah and the crew manage to escape. Sarah, the musician, must become a warrior.
Louie, with Sarah's daring help, leads the whales' counterattack. Unknown to Sarah, Louie teaches the attack call to the other whales. When Sarah becomes endangered, he raises the call and thousands of whales rise up in tandem. A phalanx of whales dives under the ships and capsizes them. In an epic battle they destroy the whaling fleet and restore peace to the oceans.
