The truth about the myth! A young lemming refuses to follow the leader.
SYNOPSIS:
Life in the lemming hamlet of Landsby is divided by class: the elites and the peasants. One morning, a young peasant named Leo accidentally beats up a gryfalcon. Princesss Peggy Lemming and the community see Leo as a hero. King Lemming says Leo was lucky.
King Lemming announces a Spring Celebration, including the inaugural leap into the ultimate lemming party. The lemmings have been told by King Lemming that when they leap off the cliff, they end up in an incredible party with enough food to bring home to their families. King Lemming uses it to get rid of complainers or troublemakers, including Leo's papa, who is scheduled to take the first leap. Papa tells Leo that he is just going to talk to the Queen about the needs of the peasant community and then return.
The Spring Celebration will also host the Ultimate Lemming Challenge, with the prize to be Princess Peggy's paw in marriage. King Lemming sees it as a chance for his strongest guard, Hercules, to wed his daughter.
The Spring Celebration arrives. The King asks if there are any challengers to Hercules. Everybody is shocked when Leo steps forward.
The King and his Vizier, Victor (a vole) have to come up with a quick contest. He assigns a task to Hercules and Leo. Hercules task is to touch his knees. Leo's has to bring the King an eyebrow -- from a wolverine. The community protests, but Leo accepts (mainly because he is not exactly sure what a wolverine is).
Leo plucks an eyebrow from the slumbering wolverine -- but wakes it up in the process. The wolverine sends Leo over a cliff. To calm down the peasants, the King tells them that Leo landed safely below and is helping set up the lemming party with the Queen.
Leo finds himself snagged on a branch near the bottom when he meets a young Arctic fox named Marni. Marni, who has yet to learn that lemmings are a fox's favorite meal, helps Leo off the branch. Leo tells Marni that he is a baby moose.
After a harrowing escape from a ravenous pike, they come to a pile of food at the bottom of the cliff to be used in the leap. Leo is confused. The food is in disarray - not set up for a party. A huge, soft feathery landing spot was supposed to cushion the fall of the food - and the leapers! Then Leo makes a terrifying discovery. He finds the Queen's crushed crown underneath the recently deposited food. The Celebration Leap is broken! He must tell the King and stop the leaps before Papa jumps!
Leo and Marni make it back to the community. Peggy is surprised to see Leo. Leo tells her and the King what he has seen, including the Queen's crown.
Peggy sees that Victor is controlling the King with his magical staff. She breaks it, not knowing that the King is even worse when he is uncontrolled. The King has Leo arrested and sent to Weasel Penitentiary. He tells ALL of the peasants that they can jump.
Thanks to Marni, Leo escapes, and arrives at the leap just in time to stop Papa from leaping. A fight breaks out. Leo and the King are knocked over the cliff. They cling onto a long root. Marni pushes Hercules over the cliff and into the King, sending them both down below. The community celebrates as Leo and Peggy embrace. The lemming party does continue with a leap – into a swimming pool, with food and equality for all. (A musical version will be available later this year.)
