THOUSANDAIRE
By Benjamin King

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE:

A pair of intelligent thirty-something guys find themselves working in a soul crushing call center and start a social club to boost morale before they lose their minds or their jobs.

SYNOPSIS:

Tim and Glen are friends that work in an oppressive call center. To combat the drudgery of their jobs they bring in children’s toys and test how much foolishness they can get away with. It’s a thankless, entry level position with no future but Tim and Glen only take it seriously enough to keep their jobs. On a particularly disappointing day, they try to rally their coworkers to join them for drinks at a local bar after work. However, everyone they ask can’t afford to or needs to hustle home to tend to their children. They realize that they might be the only people in the office that don’t have kids or responsibilities that eat up their time and disposable income. They decide to form a social club to deal with their stress and see if they can meet other disgruntled workers in other offices. In the spirit of bringing toys to work, the club would strive to do fun activities that they might have enjoyed as a child. They would call it: The Thousandaire’s Club.

Their club finds a modest group of followers on social media as they post pictures of their exploits. But they are frustrated that they haven’t made any actual new friends. On a visit to a rollerink, Tim meets a woman and gets her number. Glen is a little jealous and accuses Tim of abandoning him. It sparks a heated argument.

Glen avoids Tim for the next few days and even takes a rare day off work. The Thousandaire Club has helped put Glen’s life in perspective. He graduated from a community college for web development, but the only job he could find after graduation is in the call center. Goofing off with Tim has helped him last as long as he did. But now he doesn’t know what to do. He just doesn’t want to work in the call center. Tim convinces him to take some time off instead of quitting.

Tim gets to know the woman he met at the rollerink on an enjoyable first date. He’s shocked to discover that she works as a barista and doesn’t hate her job. She asks him what career he would prefer, he confesses that he’s always wanted to be a stand-up comedian. It’s something he never thought of doing because it’s not a practical job. She convinces him to give it some thought by taking her to a comedy club on their second date.

During Glen’s time off, he visits an old boardwalk carnival that he used to visit when he was a child. The carnival has been closed down for years but Glen is desperate to remember happier times in his life. An impromptu conversation with a wise homeless woman helped him realize how important the Thousandaire’s club has been. Years from now, he might vaguely remember how he didn’t like his job. But he will never forget all the crazy stunts they pulled. He returns to work with a new perspective. The Thousandaire’s club will continue to be a pleasant distraction as Tim and Glen keep searching for a better job.
