Maurice Vaughan

Unique Horror story, Trina Jackson. Your logline reads more like a short synopsis. Here's a logline template that might help you:

"After ______ (the inciting incident/the event that sets the plot in motion), a _______ (the protagonist with an adjective) tries/attempts to _______ (goal of story) so ________ (stakes)."

Loglines are one or two sentences (a one-sentence logline sounds better and it takes less time for a producer, director, etc. to read it). You can add the antagonist in the logline. The inciting incident can also be at the end of the logline.

Example #1:

"After a group of dog criminals arrives in a small town, an impulsive dog sheriff defends a dog treat factory so they won't steal food that's meant for hungry dog families."

Example #2:

"A dysfunctional couple works together to survive against bears after they crash on an abandoned road miles from help."

NOTE: Not all stories will follow this logline template. Biopics, TV shows (the overall logline for a show might not follow this template, but the logline for an episode in the show could), and documentaries might not follow this template.

Thank you Maurice. I will do that next time.

Hey, Trina! I agree with Maurice, your story does sound original and unique. I believe the thing here is we only have the bad guy in the story (Matthew, the math tutor). Is there a student on Thomas Atkinson University who's particularly important in the story (protagonist)? Because generally, the inciting incident happens to the protagonist.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Trina Jackson.

Trina Jackson

There really is no protagonist. You can say the protagonist are Matthew's friends, Durrell, Tarik, and Monica. This screenplay basically is about the campus serial killer killing students regarding their grades.

Trina Jackson

Matthew is the campus serial killer and he is killing the students that he tutors over grades that are not A's. Once Matthew's friends find out that he is the campus killer, they try to stop him from killing other students on campus.

TBHWY(to be honest with you) I could really use a film mentor. That is what I really need. I am just a rookie and this is my second script that I've written so far.
