LITTLE DIPPER
By Scott Tobin

GENRE: Comedy, Family
LOGLINE: A teen-aged movie fan travels the country on a press junket with the cast of a little-league baseball movie as he tries to become famous himself.

SYNOPSIS:

In the 1970's thirteen year old Steve has a father who works in the movie business. The movie company has just released a hit film about a little league team and there is a nationwide press junket planned as publicity. Steve is lucky enough to be invited to travel with the young actors as they make appearances. He quickly forms a bond with Dale, one of the stars of the film. As Steve and Dale stay in hotel rooms, order tons of room service, and invite girls to eat at the best restaurants around the country, Steve starts to get a hunger for fame as well. Steve also forges a friendship with another cast member, Simon, who is a few years older and has a more jaded view of the movie business. Despite Simon's negativity, Steve enjoys the friendship and different perspective he brings to the glamorous life. While in Chicago, Dale's sister Julie joins the tour, and Steve immediately falls in love with her. Dale does not appreciate the threat that Julie brings to his and Steve's lifestyle, but there is nothing he can do to stop it, although he does try to sabotage their blossoming relationship. A sequel to the little league film is announced but Simon has not been asked to return. He is crushed that he has been dealt this blow. Steve tries to console him but he is also excited at the prospect that there may be a new role for him in the sequel. When the trip gets to Houston, Steve gets to be an extra in the sequel to the little league movie. While watching all of his friends get close up and dialogue, Steve vows that he will get a major role in a film so he can be famous like his friends. Steve's father does manage to round up an audition for Steve, but afterwards, it is clear that Steve does not possess a talent for acting. As the junket winds up, Steve and Dale throw a softball in Central Park in the shadow of the movie company's building. They vow that they will always stay friends and always be famous.
