Following her release from prison, a Polish immigrant returns to New York to seek her revenge on the ex-lover responsible for her father’s death and her conviction.

SYNOPSIS:

After immigrating to the US as a child, Ariana Diamond and her family climb their way out of poverty into a comfortable existence. When real estate prices start to rise, a wealthy developer and his son, Ariana's love interest, offer Ariana's father Gregory a handsome sum to sell his printshop. When he refuses, they return in the dead of night to burn the shop, killing Gregory in the process. Awakened by the flames, Ariana pursues the arsonists down the block, firing her father's gun and accidentally killing one of them. She is immediately jailed for murder. Returning to the city ten years later, she and her brother are back in the tenements. Ariana seeks out a lawyer who will represent her case, and meets Lawrence. The two form a tender friendship that eventually grows to love as they combat the real estate moguls for Ariana's right to the property in a time when women had virtually no rights, amidst the backdrop of some of the fiercest immigration and labor riots in the country's history.
