SYNOPSIS:

Marquise Caroline de Champagne lives on the estate of her much older husband, where first-class wine is produced. By chance, she learns that her husband has a lover whom he wants to bring to the estate, with the explanation that Carolina, as his legal wife, is sending her to Paris to introduce them to dark bourgeois society. She goes to Paris, where she meets people from the wealthy part of society. As she likes to play the piano, she has a piano teacher, Jean Louise Dourdo, with whom she falls in love and has a secret intimate relationship with. Jean Louis is the illegitimate son of old Ralard, an influential and powerful Parisian rich man. She becomes pregnant and returns to her husband's estate to confess everything to him. Her husband has a heart attack and dies. Carolina inherited the estate and the care of a huge vineyard in Champagne. She stays here, breaks off her relationship with Jean Louis and gives birth to a son. A few years later she and Jean Louis reconnect and she admits to him that it is his son. Later they get married, and she continues to play the piano.
