By James Earl

GENRE: Thriller, Comedy
LOGLINE: As the LA Riots erupt in the city, a group of old college friends who have reunited in a Malibu mansion must shelter in place and face their dark secrets and prejudices, leading to their emotional and moral downfall.

SYNOPSIS:

Sitting atop a plush empire at Goldman Sachs, legacy stockbroker, Nick Hague, savors the ostentatious tang of life's sweetest fruits: power, wealth, and a beautiful woman, Marigold, gracing his arm. Amid crippling anxiety, he strives to regain control, orchestrating a grand reunion within the expanse of his opulent Malibu mansion, intending to bathe in the awe, and perhaps envy, of his old college friends. But his plan backfires when the notorious LA riots break out, turning his glamorous gathering into a tense lockdown. As they watch the chaos unfold on TV, old grudges surface and buried secrets are exposed, making the atmosphere even more volatile. Nick's veneer of sophistication tears apart, unveiling the grotesque visage of arrogance and ruthless domination, mainly targeted towards Marigold, a trophy wife dismissed as a mere plaything in his well-oiled world. Yet, behind her multiple facades of beauty, Marigold is a silent instigator, playing her part in their debauched, hedonistic secret life shared between curtains of denial and numb oblivion, where drugs, partner-swapping, and mental chess form the beating heart of their relationship. Inside the mansion, Marigold wrestles with feelings of love tangled with resentment for Nick. Their psychological games, while intense, pale in comparison to the havoc unfolding outside their gates. The LA riots, devastating and unruly, put their personal issues into harsh perspective. Even though Nick's controlling nature and manipulative games of his own fuel unrest within their luxurious sanctuary, the true turmoil lies outside. As the city is engulfed in rioting far more catastrophic than their domestic strife, Nick's steely facade begins to break down. Still, it's a mere echo of the anarchy on the streets, adding a chilling context to their privileged but troubled world.
