GERALD'S LAST GREAT HEIST
By James Mulcahy

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE:

In a desperate bid to settle his debts, a quirky gambler with a penchant for the absurd orchestrates a heist to steal a supposedly lucky koi fish from a wealthy eccentric, only to find himself ensnared in a hilariously ill-fated confrontation that leads him to an unexpected form of redemption.

SYNOPSIS:

Gerald, a chronically unlucky gambler with a flair for the unconventional, finds himself at rock bottom after losing a bet on a snail race. With creditors closing in, he concocts a plan so outlandish it just might work: stealing the "Golden Koi," a fish believed to bring extraordinary luck to its wealthy owner, Mrs. Pennington.

To pull off the heist, Gerald assembles a motley crew of addicts, each battling their own peculiar obsessions. "Eight-Ball Eddie," a pool shark with a knack for precision; "Marathon Mary," an endurance runner who never knows when to quit; and "Diet Dave," perpetually on a new diet. Together, they form a team with just the right mix of skills and desperation to attempt the impossible.

As the heist night arrives, their plan quickly unravels. Mrs. Pennington, far from the frail and oblivious target they expected, turns out to be a formidable opponent with a past as an Olympic sharpshooter. The heist, riddled with comedic mishaps and blunders, ends with Gerald and his crew caught in the act, standing in the very pond they intended to pilfer, surrounded by garden gnomes and facing the barrel of Mrs. Pennington's gun.

Instead of pressing charges, Mrs. Pennington, amused and perhaps a bit flattered by the absurd lengths Gerald went to for the koi, sentences them to community service—maintaining her extensive gardens and caring for the fish they tried to steal. Through this unexpected twist of fate, Gerald discovers a new passion and perhaps a bit of the luck he was so desperately seeking, not in gambling, but in the tranquility of nature and the satisfaction of hard work.

The film closes with Gerald, now reformed and oddly content, sharing tales of his failed heist with a new group of community service recruits, a knowing smile playing on his lips as he feeds the Golden Koi, the fish that changed his life in ways he never could have bet on.
