SYNOPSIS:
A true story based on the life of my ancestor, Knud Bull.
In the mid-19th century, Knud Bull, a Norwegian painter with dreams of renown, finds his life taking an unexpected turn. Caught in Norway for forgery and subjected to an English trial, Bull's aspirations are dashed as he is convicted and sentenced to transportation. Sent far from home to the penal colonies of Tasmania, Australia, Bull faces a reality harsher than he could have imagined.
In the stark and unforgiving environment of the colony, Bull's resilience is tested to its limits. Yet, it is here, amidst the struggle for survival, that his artistic spirit finds new life. His paintings become a window to his soul, capturing the essence of the Tasmanian and the complex interplay of light and shadow in the lives of its inhabitants.
This narrative follows Bull's journey from a hopeful artist to a convict in a foreign land, exploring themes of redemption, the indomitable human spirit, and the transformative power of art. Bull's story is one of finding beauty in the bleakest of circumstances and the enduring legacy of a creative spirit unbound by chains.
