Spiffy Trent with four daughters leaves her doctor’s office after an examination for a damaged knee. She is watched by the estranged husband, Daddy, 40’s, as they leave the office and follows them their church parking lot. The mother and daughters remove their packed lunch, eat next to their old white passenger van.

Parker Parker has just arrived in Coral Gables. Waking up in his new apartment to only two suitcases, two suits, some shirts, and a computer. A new job, and hopefully a new job awaits. It’s his first Sunday morning in Miami. He hears the church bells as he leaves to go to his favorite breakfast spot in Mami Beach from a past life. He sees Spiffy and the girls in the church parking lot as he’s stopped at an intersection.

It's church service and Spiffy is in the choir along with her attorney Sal. In post service coffee, we are introduced to her church support family, and some of the daughter’s traits. Sal tells Spiffy they need to talk about her situation away from his office.

That afternoon, Parker sits a bayside by bar and meets a couple who’ve just docked their sailboat. They strike up a conversation about sailing the Caribbean.

Sal and Spiffy talk after choir practice about the need for a “second boat” for her project and another adult for the trip. Music director Hank sits with daughter, Charle, 9, and they begin to sing a current pop tune. Upon arriving home, Spiffy goes straight to bed leaving Mandy, 13, and Jonie, 12, to clean up the kitchen and get Charle and Cilla, 7, to bed. There is an issue of control between the older two siblings.

The following Sunday, Parker attends the service. On the way for coffee after post service, he walks through a breezeway where Spiffy, Jonie, and Cilla are set up promoting their Sea Scout program, a poster with a map of their goal: sailing from Dinner Key to Key West is taped to the wall behind him. Parker stops, and Spiffy talks about her Sea Scout program and it’s an all-girl group. Parker states he was a Scoutmaster with his son’s troop in Orlando. She invites him to their next weeknight meeting. He is non-committal.

Spiffy and the girls return home after church, and Daddy is waiting for them. He demands to see his girls. Spiffy is opposed. Mandy steps between them and offers to go with him for one hour. Spiffy reluctantly agrees.

At the Sea Scout meeting Parker shows up, and ask if they would allow him to help in their goal. He is interrogated by the scout crew. They establish he’s divorced and wants to “learn how to sail,” and would like to have his son. Toby, 13, on the cruise.

Parker is asked to have a background breakfast by Sal at a Cuban diner. Before the meeting, Skipper, 50’s, arrives and sits at the counter to observe the meeting. Sal, already brief by Spiffy, discuss why Parker is in Miami, and does he understand the situation. After the meeting, Skipper comes over and Sal gives Skipper his business card to check him out.

Spiffy meets with Parker the following Saturday in the Sanctuary choir loft. She says she spoken to Sal and Pastor Cathy and has a conditional approval. She asks s Parker to pray with her on their goal. He’s uncomfortable with the praying part, so the do it silently. Kinda.

The wheels are set in motion to make the cruise happen. Parker finds out the unintended consequence is getting drawn into the dynamics of abusive spouse whose finally received divorce papers, and the strong bond he still has over a daughter. Spiffy gets the help needed keep her girls focused forward as she struggles in her faith to keep it together, and figure out what’s next.
